Barnsley is a thriving town, which is stepping out of the shadows of it’s former mining town image, into an exciting, new era.
The Remaking Barnsley plan, the regeneration masterplan for the town, is attracting £360 million worth of investment to transform the town centre and surrounding area. The plans, some of which are already underway include:
The Barnsley Markets Project – The vision for the famous Barnsley market includes a purpose built, three storey building to house a varied selection of market stalls, an external entertainment centre, a department store and a multiplex cinema. The new building will have a striking curved glass roof, and it will also house retail units, restaurants, bars and town centre apartments.
Barnsley Transport Interchange – This £24 million project will create a colourful, curved complex, which will house the bus, coach and rail interchange along with six retail units, a cafe, 80 park and ride spaces and a new information centre.
Civic and Mandela Gardens – The Grade II listed Civic will be revamped to create exciting, new retail, cultural and leisure facilities. The focus will be on design-led retail, such as jewellery and furniture, and the plans also include a gallery, performance and conference space.
Gateway Plaza – This vibrant development, opposite McLintocks will create retail space, bars, restaurants, apartments, a hotel and office space.
All these developments are creating a real buzz about Barnsley at the moment, so there has never been a better time to relocate. To find out more about the exciting plans for the town, please visit Barnsley Development Agency or Barnsley Bubble.
